Purpose of the Pastoral Council
Purpose of the Parish Pastoral Council
Taken from the Guidelines for Parish Pastoral Councils Revised: March 2000
Purpose of PC
- To provide pastoral planning for the good of the parish, develop goals and objectives, assign priorities for the future and prepare an annual needs statement
- The pastor receives recommendations from the council. The constitution may establish an obligation on the part of the pastor to respond, in some way, when he rejects a recommendation of the council (e.g. He does so on the basis of Church Law, diocesan policy, or the good of the parish.) Without compromising the authority of the pastor, a parish pastoral council may have a right to explanation of the decision.
- The pastor must enable the council to build an atmosphere of trust among council members and make certain that members are provided adequate training.
