Respect Life Committee:

The Life Issues Committee was established as a request from Bishop O’Brien that all parishes have a Life Issues Committee and under the direction of Father Fitzpatrick, two representatives from St. Steven’s Parish attended a Diocesan meeting on February 14, 2002. After the meeting, the two representatives returned and complying with the Diocesan request were instructed by Father to invite all interested parishioners to attend the first St. Steven’s Parish Life Issues Committee meeting which was held on Tuesday morning, April 8, 2002. Letters were sent to each known ministry affiliated with St. Steven’s Church asking for a representative from their group to attend the monthly meetings. The Committee now meets the first Tuesday of every month in the Sun Lakes St. Steven’s Catholic Church, St. John the Baptist II Room in the FitzPatrick Center.

Who We Are:

  • We are a small group of parishioners who want to serve God by informing fellow parishioners about life issues that are facing us today.

  • We are individuals who believe that life is sacred from the moment of conception to natural death.

  • We believe that prayer for the life agenda is most necessary.

  • We believe that every Catholic should know the evils against life and be able to defend the Church’s teaching on all life issues.

What We Do:

  • We meet one morning per month.

  • we raise money through parishioners’ donations that are earmarked for the Life Issues Fund so that we can provide educational materials, holy cards and prayer reminders on certain significant feast days.

  • We sponsor speakers to present to parishioners the Catholic Church’s teachings on many contemporary issues including stem cell research, cloning, abortion, infanticide, euthanasia and other life related topics.

  • We pray the Rosary before the Saturday 4:30 p.m. mass and before the Sunday 7:30 a.m. mass.

Why We Do It:

  • We do it because our Pope and Bishops and Pastors have asked that members of each Catholic Parish become involved in fighting the Culture of Death through Respect Life Ministries such as ours.

  • We hope to raise awareness of the seriousness of life issues in our society and try to direct our parish in the path of life.

All St. Steven’s parishioners are invited to attend the monthly meetings. Suggestions and input are always welcome.
